At the moment, invoice numbering in ZenMaid is generated sequentially based on the total number of invoices created across all customers, rather than per individual customer.

From a client-facing and operational perspective, this isn’t ideal. Customers don’t benefit from seeing how many invoices have been created across the entire business — that number has no relevance to them. What is useful is being able to clearly track how many invoices (and cleans) that specific customer has received.

For example:

Customer A may be on their 40th clean/invoice, so their next invoice would be #41, then #42, #43, etc.

Customer B might be a new client, so their first invoice would be #1, then #2, and so on — independently of other customers.

This would make invoicing much clearer and more intuitive for both the business owner and the customer, especially for recurring weekly or bi-weekly services.

What’s interesting is that ZenMaid already appears to partially track invoice numbers per customer. If I manually enter an invoice number that a specific customer has already used, the system correctly flags it as a duplicate. This suggests the system is aware of which invoice numbers belong to each customer — it just doesn’t automatically remember or suggest the next number for that customer.

Because of this, invoicing is currently quite time consuming. To find the correct invoice number for a customer, I have to dig through old invoices, emails, or WhatsApp messages to see what their last invoice number was before creating a new one. When invoicing many clients regularly, this adds a lot of unnecessary admin time.

Having ZenMaid automatically remember and increment invoice numbers per customer would:

Save significant time

Keep invoicing neat and consistent

Make invoices clearer and more meaningful for clients

Remove the need for manual tracking or external workarounds

This would be a very valuable improvement for businesses managing recurring clients and frequent invoicing.
